Z.L, 4 years old, Canada.

History:

Mother had a very hard time during the pregnancy. She was depressed & lonely with no friends around her. She was living in a foreign country. Cried every day. Felt very isolated. Some suicidal thoughts during the pregnancy. This is probably going to have caused emotional trauma which will need to be addressed with Z at some point.

Full-term natural birth, no drugs taken, baby received Vitamin K & Hepatitis B vaccine before leaving the hospital. Was given mother’s milk for a short time, but then was moved on to formula milk until 1 year old.

All milestones were delayed. Some regression occurred around 1 years old, when he lost eye contact and stopped responding to his name. He also started flapping his hands when excited. He had chronic diarrhoea after every meal from one until around three years old. Speech did not appear and understanding was considerably delayed. Eczema all over his body that started around 4 months old & was treated with steroid creams. Low muscle tone and delayed motor skills. Sensory behaviour such as flapping.

He was taken to a classical homeopath at 18 months for a short time. Given Calc Carb which helped with babbling & vocalising, but his mother wasn’t comfortable after this as the homeopath would prescribe remedies but not tell her what he was giving. This is a fairly common practice that I don’t think it is suitable for the modern world.

After this she took him to a naturopath at 3 years old who removed allergens from his diet. This resulted in dramatically improved consistency of stools & we also had the beginnings of speech. Eye contact also improved & the flapping stopped. It’s amazing how much changing what food you eat can help.

He came to me around 4 years old.

Presenting Complaint:

Diagnosed with autism. Developmental delay. He has simple 3-word sentences where he can express his needs & wants. Not conversational. Often doesn’t understand questions that he’s asked. Some delay in overall understanding. Hypotonia (decreased muscle tone), can’t jump, runs with a peculiar gait. Delayed fine motor skills. Very shy. Echolalia.

Analysis:

Emotional trauma during pregnancy may well be a factor. It was very intense & may have set Z up for having delayed milestones. Vaccines and steroids will need to be detoxed. If there has been a lot of steroid use, this will often block other homeopathic remedies from working, therefore we will start with that.

1st three prescriptions:

Steroid detox + Baryta Carb in gradually ascending potencies.

Result:

Greatly Improved understanding, able to follow instructions. Receptive speech greatly improved. Much more speech & more complex sentences. Talking in both English & Punjabi. Echolalia 90% reduced. Started singing songs & rhymes. Less shy & more social with people he doesn’t know, saying ‘Hi’ to strangers now. Becoming friendly instead of being withdrawn. He has started making friends! Improved fine motor skills, he’s able to colour inside the lines of a picture now. Improved physical confidence, now able to ride a bike & started jumping down from a height. Doing well at school & now he’s able to attend for a 6 hour day.

A fantastic result. We still have some speech delay. He’s a sensitive, emotional boy that cries easily.

Fourth prescription:

Vaccine detox + Natrum Mur

Result:

Mother reports further “major improvements in all areas”. School states that people don’t know that he is autistic. Asks lots of questions & is very curious. Wants to know the names of everything. Improved motor skills, he can now jump! He has age appropriate play and interests.

Fifth prescription:

Continue Vaccine detox + Pulsatilla

Result:

We are now waiting for the next exciting instalment!

This case is a fantastic example of how the results of homeopathy can seem almost miraculous. These changes have happened over the course of about a year (though there have been gaps of several months, so we’ve only had 5 appointments in this time). I’m confident that Z will be a healthy young boy, soon caught up with his neurotypical peers, that will be able to pass his exams, go off to college, start a career and family and lead a fulfilling life.

Total cost so far:

£495 for the consultations & perhaps £60 – £80 in homeopathic remedies. Many families are paying more than that WEEKLY for ABA therapy, speech therapy, supplements etc.

I’m afraid that I can’t guarantee such dramatic improvements every time, some cases are slower or more complex. Some people don’t respond so well to the remedies. However most cases that I have seen show significant improvements over the course of the treatments.
